Chapter 2: The Flagstone Path

Waiting for the flagstone contractors...

Got a few plants in...
That white carpet was getting filthy!

The fan palm looked good...
until transplant shock set in.

Lots of amaryllis suddenly appeared
one day right next to this cute bumble bee
planter I acquired recently in Calistoga.

The contractors finally arrived!
First they layed out the bender
boards and dug out the dirt.

Then they put down steel reinforcements
and poured the concrete.

Then they leveled the concrete...

And smoothed it out.

When they were done, I had to water the base
three times a day! After a week and
a few trips to the stone yard...

I finally selected the flagstones.
The guys came back with the stones and started
breaking them, laying them out...

...and fitting them together.

What a fun puzzle!

After applying the mortar between
the stones, they washed off the excess
and cleaned all the stones by hand.

Finally, my stone path was done!
