Cheryl Jasper In the early 90s, when the world wide web was first emerging, I'd already been using the internet for email and electronic bulletin boards for many years. But I was astonished at how much more useful it became—seemingly overnight—when a graphical user interface was added... and how many non-technical people were getting in on the act!

As a technical writer, I could hardly wait to be part of this amazing communications revolution and expand my technical skills. So I created a few learn-as-you-go situations for myself.

My first web site was for Ziggurat B&B on the central Oregon coast. I designed and developed the site in exchange for a few nights' lodging. I was totally hooked from that point on! Next, I managed to take on the technical leadership role of PWG, a non-profit organization in the San Francisco bay area, and designed, developed, and maintained their site for a few years. Once that site was in maintenance mode, I created a web site of my own to showcase my photography and started bartering my web site design skills for goods, services, and free stays at B&Bs. All the while, my design and technical skills were improving. After gaining some experience and building a small portfolio, I was able to get my first few paying gigs.

At this point, I've developed e-commerce as well as non-commercial sites for a variety of profit and non-profit organizations. Some of my web sites contain numerous pages and fairly complicated navigation schemes. Others are fairly simple and present the content on a single page. My own photography web site is very simple to use, but it's architected around a relational database with a robust search engine that offers visitors access to hundreds of images on dynamically generated display pages.

In addition to my web site design and development business, I am a photographer and technical writer. I hope you enjoy this sampling of my web site designs and consider visiting my photography site as well.
