Ziggurat is an architecturally stunning, four-story pyramid designed for visual excitement and indulgent comfort. ZigguratThere's a lot of wood and glass in the house, so although it's quite contemporary, it has the distinctive feel of a beach house.

Situated in one of nature's most lavish settings, we are on the ocean, sharing space with birds, abundant flora and fauna, a creek where salmon spawn, bridges whose arches grace the landscape, water with constantly changing hues, and sunsets that inspire a sense of wonder.

Your hosts are world meanderers who think people are what make existence worthwhile. We want you to enjoy Ziggurat.

Nearby activities

Yachats covers about a ten-mile stretch along the rocky coast northwest of Eugene. Highway 101 (the coast road) winds along the edge of a rocky cliff, high above the Pacific for about five miles south of the town and then dips down closer to the sea for a few miles. With a population of 635, Yachats has only a few roads off Highway 101, and most people live or stay in town. Although Ziggurat is fairly remote, a number of excellent seaside restaurants and shops are within close proximity.

Devil's Churn A couple of miles north of Ziggurat is Cape Perpetua, where you'll find many hiking trails and easy walks, as well as an informative interpretive center. Devil's Churn, one of the highlights of Cape Perpetua, is a 100-foot chasm in the hillside. At high tide, the waves rush in and crash into massive rocks, splashing 30-40 feet in the air. At low tide, the water settles down to reveal tide pools where you'll see many sea urchins, starfish, and a number of other creatures.

A few miles south of Yachats, there's a short hike up to the Haceta Head lighthouse, which contains Oregon’s most powerful beacon. This is the most photographed lighthouse on the central coast.

Oregon Dunes Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area to the south starts in Florence and covers about a 40-mile stretch of the coast. The dunes are from 50 feet to 3 miles wide, reaching as high as 300 feet in some areas. Trees, grass, and shrubs grow in some areas of the dunes, and other areas are totally barren. Stables offer horseback riding on parts of the beach. Or you can choose an area that is totally deserted and peaceful with only the sounds of the water and wind to keep you company.

Educational opportunities abound on the central coast with the Marine Science Center, Oregon Coast Aquarium, and Sea Lion Caves, each a short drive away. Numerous state parks provide endless hiking opportunities at all levels.

What does Ziggurat mean?

Ziggurat ArchitectureZiggurat is a Sumerian word given by the ancient Babylonians and Assyrians to their temples around 2200 until 500 BC. The word means "terraced pyramid," and ziggurats were precursors to the Egyptian pyramids.

Found in many ancient Mesopotamian cities, ziggurats were step-shaped, representing the ascent into the heavens where the gods reigned. The outside was constructed of materials that were resistant to the elements, and the terraces were often landscaped with shrubs and trees.
